Timeshare Scams
Timeshare ownership gets a bad rap from most of the public. Much of this is due to the old stereotype of timeshare salesmen forcing people into buying property they can’t afford. The old joke goes like this: A family is invited to a free weekend at a lush timeshare resort providing that they sit in on a two hour sales pitch.
During this time, the salesmen do all they can short of genitorture to try and cajole the unwitting families into buying a timeshare whether they came with the intent or not. If this scenario isn’t bad enough, there are countless more instances where some “timeshare companies” completely rip off their victims without even handing over any property. These timeshare scams are more prevalent than you may think and, if you have been contemplating timeshare ownership, you would do well to take heed of them.
The popular website “Scambusters” has a great section on some of the more popular timeshare scams. While this is a great guide for sniffing out some of the more commonly occurring timeshare scams, it is important to remember that there are new timeshare scams being developed everyday.
Don’t fall into one scam because you were too busy trying to identify another. It is better to be vigilant at all times and make sure that you know everything there is to know about the company with which you are considering doing business. Checking out tug2 is another good idea if you are trying to bone up on the latest and greatest timeshare scams.
Keep in mind that having the slightest bit of intelligence and common sense will help to set you apart from most of the people who fall victim to most of these scams. While there are no doubt some crafty con men who are pulling successful scams all the time, there are many other timeshare scams being run fairly poorly and are only succeeding because of the naiveté of many people as well as a general stupidity on the part of much of the thinking public.
If you are at a timeshare location and think that you may be witnessing one of the many timeshare scams that succeed every day, simply leave the place. You are not forced to sign anything and don’t believe anybody that tells you otherwise. The fact of the matter is that you should be wary of signing anything within twenty four hours even if you are positive that the company you are dealing with is reputable and trustworthy.
If a salesman seems to be a bit too pushy for your tastes, this may not mean that any timeshare scams are taking place. Salesmen are pushy, rude, and unlikable by nature. At any rate, don’t let somebody push you into a timeshare purchase, whether it is a scam or not. Remember to always be vigilant and questioning. A good bit of common sense and an eye for details should ensure that you will avoid any timeshare scams that may come your way.
